Strategic Management Society Virtual Annual Conference:

OPEN STRATEGY HACKATHON 2020

Thursday, October 22, 2020
2:00 - 4:00 PM (UK)
Virtual Session
How might we build pandemic resilient people networks to collaborate on innovation and strategy?
How might we harness emerging (4IR) technologies to accelerate higher quality collaborations under VUCA conditions?
How do we design and implement open strategy initiatives to craft or verify/refute these class of strategic challenges?

CV19 has impacted all organizations around the world and changed the rules of the game across sectors such as business, education, health care and government. For example, virtual meetings and projects are now the norm yet what remains unclear is the impact to productivity, performance, creativity and innovation across formal and especially informal (human) intellectual capital networks.

In this short yet surgical hands-on session, participants will learn-by-doing and gain immersion to designing and implementing an "open strategy hackathon" by tackling a real business decision - should the SMS invest /launch in a new (virtual) DBA/exec PhD community; if so, what technologies would accelerate collaboration. More specifically, participants will gain high level benefits/flow including:

  • immersion to open strategy principles (ie, design thinking);

  • learn how to design open strategy initiatives (ie, processes/practices);

  • practice by implementing open strategy on real-world business decision/challenge;
  • utilize collaboration tools (ie, Miro, social impact strategy analysis);

  • network across people and teams from uni's and companies;

  • present recommendations (ie, reps from SMS, WBS, Durham and DBA.network);

  • shape decision making with actionable recommendations;

The session will be facilitated by Luciano C. Oviedo who has run 50+ strategy and innovations initiatives as a Business/Corporate Strategist at Intel Corporation and as Founder/Researcher at startups such as Tempugo. He is currently performing research on the social impact of emerging technologies at the Warwick Business School (UK).
